Every registered domain name has at least 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a specific web hosting company. This way, you have both your website and your e-mails managed by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, such as A and MX. The first one shows which server manages the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, whenever you type a domain in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you may be forwarded to the servers of another service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the site and the e-mails suggests that you may have your website and your emails with two different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you have a shared web hosting plan through us, you'll be able to see, create and change any A or MX record for your domain names. So long as a particular domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to modify specific records using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or emails pointed to another service provider if you want to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will enable you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name at all. If you choose to use the email services of a different provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do this with just a few clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated hosting plans, will allow you to view the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is incredibly easy as all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a few more clicks and if you experience any troubles, you can check out our video tutorials on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with total control over all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're switching your e-mails to a different provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
