If a specific page on a site does not load for some reason or if a link is broken, the site visitor shall see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the website, that may make the visitor leave your site. A possible solution in such a case is a function made available from some hosting providers - the option to set your own custom-made error pages which will have identical design and style as your website and which can contain any images or text that you would like depending on the particular error. There are four standard errors which may take place and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your web browser sends a bad request to the web server and it can't be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see a web page, but you have not done this yet; 403, if you do not have a permission to view a particular page; and 404, when a link that you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In each of these scenarios, visitors will be able to see your customized content instead of a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Shared Web Hosting

The customized error pages feature is provided with every shared web hosting plan which we offer and you'll be able to replace the generic pages with your own with no more than a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia website hosting CP. You'll need to develop the actual files and to upload them to your account, then to set them for a particular domain or subdomain from the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You can do this for every single website hosted in the account separately, so that each group of custom pages will have the exact same layout as the site it's part of. If needed, you could always go back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. A different way to set custom error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have not done this before, you can simply copy the required program code from our Help article on this subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All semi-dedicated hosting plans that we supply support customized error pages and it will not take more than a few mouse clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel to use this function. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel where you will need to type in the links to the custom-made files via very simple drop-down menus and an intuitive interface. Of course, you should upload them to your account before that. If you do not need to use this feature at some point, you will be able to deactivate it just as quickly and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be displayed if your visitors encounter an error. If you'd like to, you may also use an .htaccess file to activate the customized error pages. The file has to include a particular line of code as well as a link for each error type and you may find an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
